Audience Key Statuses Guide

AK Team

In Audience Key, published URLs that rank for keywords that matter are the ultimate goal. Different statuses are used to help manage this process from conception to fruition and further refinement. Audience key uses three different types of statuses (URL, Content Brief and Writing) to indicate four parts of the process (ideation, strategy, writing and publication).

  • URL Status — Indicates where page is in terms of ideation or publication
  • Brief Status — Indicates where the page is in terms of strategy
  • Writing Status — Indicates where the page is in the writing process

Combined with role-based access control, these statuses are a powerful tool for planning, tracking and publishing content that can scale with your content strategy.

URL Status – Ideation & Publication

The URL statuses are used in two ways:

1) To indicate where a page is in the ideation and planning process

2) To indicate if the ideation process resulted in a published page

  • Explored — URL has been ideated or is in the process of being ideated (researched with keywords mapped) but isn’t ready for consideration.
  • Proposed — URL has been submitted for consideration to be published.
  • Planned — URL has been approved and needs to have strategy and content completed for publication.
  • Published — URL is live and published.
  • Sidelined — URL is not deferred for later reconsideration but not dismissed.
  • Dismissed — URL and any corresponding keywords have been determined not viable to the project plan.
  • TBD — URL acting as a placeholder for keywords that don’t have a clear mapping plan.
  • Deleted  — URL has been removed from the project strategy (and will no longer be visible in the URL Census)

Brief Status – Strategy

Brief statuses reflect the stages of pre-writing strategy development.

  • Draft — The content brief strategy has yet to be developed (default for any URL, only seen by team members).
  • Collaborating — The content brief strategy is being developed.
  • Internal Review — The content brief strategy is being reviewed.
  • Revision — The content brief strategy is being revised.
  • Completed — The content brief has been strategically completed.
  • Approved — The content brief strategy has been approved.

Writing Status – Writing

The culmination of your content concepts and mapping is getting the content written. These status are to show the progress of content production and the possible stages of approval with the idea that the writer will be submitting the content to an editor.

  • Not Set — The content creation process has yet to start.
  • Unassigned — The content brief strategy is ready hasn’t been assigned to a writer or creator.
  • Assigned — The content creation has been assigned to a writer and is being written.
  • Editing — The content has been created and is being edited.
  • Revision — The content is being revised.
  • Completed — The content has been written and edited, and it is ready for publication (if not requiring an approval).
  • Approved — The content has been approved and is ready to be published.
